What Is a Dallas-Fort Worth Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a customized combination of surgical procedures to contour your body, lift and tighten sagging skin, and slim areas that have pockets of unwanted fat. The combination of procedures in your mommy makeover is tailored to your needs and will be chosen in consultation with Dr. Abtahi.

In your consultation with Dr. Abtahi, he will examine you and ask questions to understand what improvements you’d like to make, then recommend the safest and most effective combination of procedures to help you achieve your desired look.

Depending on your needs, your mommy makeover might include:

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, to flatten and firm your abdomen. A tummy tuck removes excess skin to eliminate sagging and smooth your belly and uses liposuction to remove excess fat from your abdomen and waistline. It can also reconnect abdominal muscles that have separated with pregnancy or weight gain.

Breast surgery to lift and reshape sagging breasts, add volume where it has been lost, or reduce the size of over-large breasts.

Liposuction to reduce pockets of fat anywhere on the body, including the waist, hips, thighs, buttocks, upper arms, neck, or under the chin.

Arm lift to eliminate loose, hanging skin and excess fat under the upper arm.

Thigh lift to tighten sagging skin and remove excess fat on the inner or outer thighs.

Facial treatments and procedures, such as injections with Botox or dermal fillers or a surgical facelift or brow lift.

Fat transfer to add volume to your breasts, cheeks, or under your eyes using fat removed with liposuction from another part of your body.

Why Might I Consider a Mommy Makeover?

Diet and exercise can bring you close to your ideal weight after pregnancy or a period of being overweight, but they often can’t restore skin that has stretched and sagged. Pockets of stubborn fat can also resist even the most vigorous slimming efforts. A mommy makeover can:

  • Tighten and smooth skin that has stretched, loosened, and sagged
  • Remove diet- and exercise-resistant bulges of fat from your abdomen, waist, upper arms, thighs, buttocks, neck, chin, or elsewhere on your body
  • Flatten and tone your abdomen
  • Slim and give better definition to your waistline
  • Lift and reshape sagging breasts
  • Add volume and roundness to flattened or deflated breasts
  • Reduce volume in over-large breasts
  • Smooth facial wrinkles
  • Help make you feel proud of your body and better about yourself

Am I a Good Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

You are probably a good candidate for a mommy makeover if you are in good health and close to your ideal weight and are bothered by:

  • Loose, saggy skin on your belly
  • A belly that bulges out because of weakened abdominal muscles
  • Stubborn pockets of fat around your waist; on your abdomen, upper arms, or thighs; or elsewhere on your body
  • Sagging, flattened, or over-large breasts

You may not be a good candidate for a mommy makeover if you:

  • Have a health condition that could make the surgery risky, such as diabetes or heart problems
  • Are significantly overweight
  • Smoke (unless you are able to quit for several weeks before and after the procedure)

If you are considering a tummy tuck as part of your mommy makeover, Dr. Abtahi advises you to wait until you are finished having children. With a subsequent pregnancy, tightened skin can be stretched again and repaired abdominal muscles can separate. Certain breast procedures can also interfere with your future ability to breastfeed. If you are considering a mommy makeover after a pregnancy, Dr. Abtahi advises that you wait at least six months after finishing breastfeeding before having breast surgery, to give your breasts time to adjust to their post-pregnancy form.

The ideal candidate for a mommy makeover has realistic expectations about what the surgery can do and the self-care necessary for a healthy recovery.

What Happens in a Mommy Makeover Procedure?

The surgical procedures in a mommy makeover are performed under general anesthesia or using local anesthesia with sedation. Dr. Abtahi performs cosmetic surgery in a hospital, where the full range of necessary services and supports are available. The steps taken in your mommy makeover will depend on the combination of procedures you are having.

After the procedures are complete, the anesthesia has worn off, and your condition is stable, you will be released to go home. For some combinations of procedures, you may spend the first night of your recovery in the hospital. As part of your planning for the procedure, Dr. Abtahi will have consulted with you to make sure that you have someone to drive you home and that appropriate help and support are available to you in the first days after surgery.

What to Expect in Mommy Makeover Recovery

Your experience in recovery will depend on the combination of procedures and treatments in your mommy makeover. You can expect to feel some discomfort immediately after surgery, and Dr. Abtahi will prescribe or recommend appropriate pain medication. If your mommy makeover includes a tummy tuck, breast surgery, or an arm or thigh lift, you’ll need to spend the first few days resting quietly at home and will need help with ordinary personal and household tasks for the first two or three days. After a tummy tuck, you won’t be able to lift anything heavy for a few weeks. That includes young children, grocery bags, trash, and cooking pots, so you’ll need to plan for some ongoing help.

Most patients take one or two weeks off from work. You’ll be able to start doing light activities after about two weeks, gradually building up to more strenuous activities at four to six weeks.

Before your surgery, Dr. Abtahi will provide you with guidance about preparing your home for your recovery, with comfortable places to sit and lie down and with the medications and foods you’ll need for the first few days. He will provide complete post-operative care instructions, including:

  • Activities that are safe and those that are not as your recovery progresses
  • Wound care to prevent infection
  • How to manage post-operative swelling and discomfort
  • Scheduled appointments to check your progress and instructions for reaching him and his staff if you have any concerns

Dallas-Fort Worth Mommy Makeover FAQs

A mommy makeover is a personalized surgical procedure designed to address the physical changes that occur during pregnancy and childbirth. It can include a combination of the following procedures:

  • Breast augmentation: To restore breast shape and size.
  • Tummy tuck: To remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tighten the abdominal muscles.
  • Liposuction: To remove excess fat from specific areas of the body.
  • Labiaplasty: To address concerns about the appearance of the labia.

The results of a mommy makeover can last for many years. However, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet and regular exercise, can help to prolong the results. It’s also important to avoid excessive weight gain, which can impact the appearance of the treated areas.

A mommy makeover is a surgical procedure and can be associated with some pain and discomfort. The pain associated with a mommy makeover is often compared to the discomfort experienced after childbirth. However, pain medications can be used to manage any pain that may occur.

Scars from a mommy makeover can vary depending on the specific procedures performed. They are typically located in areas that can be easily concealed, such as the lower abdomen, breasts, and labia.

Patients can expect to lose between 5 and 15 pounds through a mommy makeover. However, weight loss is not the primary goal of a mommy makeover, which is intended to contour the body and boost confidence. It is important to remember that a mommy makeover is not a weight loss procedure.

There is no ideal age for a mommy makeover, as the best time to have one depends on a variety of factors, including your personal health, lifestyle, and goals. Some women may be ready in their late 20s, while others may prefer to wait until their early or mid-50s.

To prepare for a smooth recovery from a mommy makeover, it is important to follow your surgeon’s instructions carefully. This may include:

  • Avoiding strenuous activity
  • Taking prescribed medications
  • Wearing a compression garment
  • Following a healthy diet

It’s crucial to have realistic expectations about the results of a mommy makeover. While the procedure can significantly improve your body’s appearance, it’s not a miracle cure. Here are some factors to consider:

  • Individual anatomy: Your body’s natural shape and structure will influence the results.
  • Healing process: Your body’s healing process can affect the final outcome.
  • Lifestyle factors: Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help preserve the results

Consult with your plastic surgeon to discuss your goals and expectations. They can provide a realistic assessment of what you can achieve through the procedure and help you understand any limitations. Remember, the goal is to enhance your self-esteem and confidence, not to achieve perfection
