What Is Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Vaginal rejuvenation refers to a set of surgical or non-surgical procedures designed to improve the appearance, function, and overall health of the vagina and surrounding genital area. These treatments aim to address a variety of concerns that women may experience due to aging, childbirth, hormonal changes, or other factors. Vaginal rejuvenation might involve one or a combination of the following specific treatments, which can be broadly categorized into two groups:
Surgical Procedures
This procedure tightens the vaginal canal and muscles to improve tone and control, which may have been impacted by childbirth or aging. In a vaginoplasty, the surgeon will remove excess tissue from the vaginal walls and tighten the surrounding muscles to achieve these goals.
Labiaplasty involves reshaping or reducing the size of the labia minora (inner vaginal lips) or labia majora (outer vaginal lips) by excising excess skin, to enhance comfort or aesthetics.
This procedure addresses the perineum, the area between the vagina and anus, to repair or improve its appearance, often after childbirth.
This surgery reduces the size of the clitoral hood to improve sexual pleasure or for aesthetic purposes.
Non-surgical procedures
This treatment uses laser energy to stimulate collagen production and tighten the vaginal tissues, improving elasticity and overall vaginal health.
This non-invasive treatment uses radiofrequency energy to heat the vaginal tissues, promoting collagen production and leading to a tighter, more toned vaginal canal.
This procedure involves injecting PRP, derived from the patient’s own blood, into the vaginal tissues to stimulate cell regeneration and improve sensitivity, lubrication, and overall vaginal health.
Which set of procedures best suit a patient is unique to each individual, and depends on the patient’s specific concerns, goals, and medical history.

What Are the Basic Steps Involved in Dr. Abtahi’s Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery?
While each patient’s feminine rejuvenation journey is unique, there are several foundational steps in Dr. Abtahi’s process that help patients achieve the most desirable and satisfactory results. These include the following.
Consultation
During the initial consultation, Dr. Abtahi will discuss the patient’s goals, expectations, and concerns. Dr. Abtahi will also review the patient’s medical history and examine the vaginal area to determine which procedure(s) would be best suited for their needs.
Anesthesia
Before the surgery begins, anesthesia is administered to ensure the patient’s comfort during the procedure. This may involve local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the surgery and patient preferences.
Incisions and Tissue Manipulation
Depending on the specific procedure being performed, Dr. Abtahi may make incisions in the vaginal area to reshape or remove excess tissue, tighten muscles, or address other concerns. The exact procedures used in this phase of vaginal rejuvenation depend upon what was discussed during the consultation and the patient’s unique goals for the treatment.
Stitching
Once the desired changes have been made, Dr. Abtahi will close the incisions using sutures. Dissolvable sutures are often used, which means they will be absorbed by the body over time and do not require removal.
Recovery
After the surgery, patients must avoid strenuous activities and sexual intercourse during the first 2 to 3 weeks. This is to ensure proper time to heal. It is normal to experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the treated area during this time. Dr. Abtahi will also provide detailed post-operative recovery instructions, which, if followed as closely as possible, will make recovery as fast as possible and optimize results.
What Patients Must Understand Before Deciding on Vaginal Rejuvenation In Dallas-Fort Worth
There are some important considerations patients must consider before fully committing to vaginal rejuvenation, including:
Goals and Expectations
It is crucial that patients have a clear understanding of their goals and maintain realistic expectations about the results cosmetic gynecology can achieve. While the procedure can improve vaginal aesthetics and function, it may not resolve all concerns. The best way to align a patient’s expectations with what vaginal rejuvenation can anatomically achieve is through a candid, honest consultation with Dr. Abtahi.
Surgical vs. Non-Surgical Options
There are both surgical and non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation options, each with its own set of benefits and limitations. Patients should discuss with Dr. Abtahi or another highly experienced and trusted professional the approach that best suits their needs and goals.
Risks and Complication
As with any medical procedure, vaginal rejuvenation carries potential risks and complications, such as infection, bleeding, scarring, pain, or changes in sensation. When choosing a surgeon, it can be helpful to keep these risks in mind and might encourage patients to choose a more experienced, more qualified surgeon over a candidate who might be less expensive.
Cost
Depending on the procedures required, vaginal rejuvenation can be expensive. Many insurers determine the procedure as elective, or non-essential, meaning it is not covered. Patients must fully understand the cost of their personal procedure, whether or not they are insured for it, and make sure the procedure realistically falls within their budget.
Choosing the Right Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgeon in Dallas-Fort Worth
Choosing the right vaginal rejuvenation surgeon is crucial for ensuring the best possible outcome, safety, and overall experience. Patients can use the following tips to find a qualified and experienced surgeon.
Board Certification
Look for a surgeon who is certified by a reputable board, such as the American Board of Plastic Surgery or the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Board certification ensures surgeons have received extensive training and that they adhere to a strict code of conduct.
Experience and Specialization
Choose a surgeon who has extensive experience and specializes in vaginal rejuvenation procedures. A surgeon with a focus on these procedures will be more knowledgeable about the latest methods and technologies, leading to better results and a lower risk of complications.
Before-and-After Photos
Review the surgeon’s portfolio of before-and-after photos to get a sense of their work and the results to expect. This will help determine if the surgeon’s style and outcomes align with the patient’s goals and expectations.
Patient Testimonials
Read patient reviews and testimonials to learn more about the surgeon’s bedside manner, communication style, and overall patient satisfaction. This information will help patients get a feel for what it’s like to work with the surgeon and their team.
Facility Accreditation
Choose a surgeon who operates in an accredited facility that meets strict safety standards. This ensures that the facility has the necessary equipment, staff, and protocols in place to handle emergencies and provide quality care.
Comfort and Trust
It’s essential to feel comfortable with and trust the surgeon. Patients should feel that that surgeon understands their goals, listen to their concerns, and provides clear explanations of the procedure and recovery process. Patients should trust their instincts when choosing a surgeon. If the patient doesn’t feel comfortable or has doubts about the surgeon, it’s best to keep searching.
Preparing for Your Labiaplasty Procedure
Preparing for your labiaplasty procedure day is important to ensure everything goes smoothly. Here are some key steps to follow:
- Follow Pre-Op Instructions: Adhere to any specific guidelines provided by your surgeon, such as fasting, avoiding certain medications (like blood thinners), or using antiseptic washes.
- Arrange Transportation: Since you’ll likely be under sedation or anesthesia, plan for someone to drive you to and from the clinic or hospital.
- Wear Comfortable Clothing: Choose loose, comfortable clothing that’s easy to put on and take off, ideally something you won’t mind wearing post-surgery.
- Prepare Your Home: Set up a comfortable recovery area with supplies you might need, such as ice packs, comfortable underwear, and any prescribed medications. Have pillows for comfort as well.
- Stock Up on Supplies: Gather items like pads, over-the-counter pain relief (if recommended), and other necessary supplies for your recovery.
- Avoid Alcohol and Smoking: Refrain from alcohol and smoking in the days leading up to your procedure, as these can affect healing.
- Plan for Rest: Arrange for time off work and other responsibilities to allow time for proper recovery.
- Discuss Aftercare: Have a clear understanding of the aftercare instructions provided by your surgeon, including how to manage pain and when to follow up.
- Stay Relaxed: Consider engaging in relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or meditation, to help ease pre-surgery anxiety.
Being well-prepared for your labiaplasty can help ensure a more comfortable and successful procedure day.

Patients considering labiaplasty often complain that the redundant tissue is uncomfortable with certain clothing, exercise, and intercourse. Other patients are unhappy with the cosmetic appearance of their labia. The ideal candidate is a patient who is bothered by her redundant inner labial tissue and who is willing to limit activity for a week or two after surgery to allow time for healing.
Labiaplasty is a fairly painless procedure. Most patients do not require narcotics postoperatively. Dr. Abtahi insists his patients stay at home for 4 days to rest so that swelling is minimized, and the incisions can heal. Patients may resume limited exercise about 4 weeks after surgery. Intercourse, tampon use, and strenuous activities like biking should be avoided for a total of 6 weeks.
Returning to work depends on what your job entails. Work involving heavy lifting or significant walking should be avoided for about 3 to 4 weeks. Patients may return to desk work or sedentary work about 5 to 7 days after surgery.
Vaginal rejuvenation is a general term that refers to any procedure that rejuvenates either the outside of the vagina such as the labia minora, the inside of the vagina, or both. We offer labiaplasty to address the redundancy of the inner labial tissue and V-Lase, a non-invasive vaginal laser, to tighten and improve the inner vaginal tissue. A combination of both procedures is often ideal for our Mommy Makeover patients.
Your partner will notice that you have less tissue redundancy, which often helps with intercourse. Many partners also notice that patients feel more confident about their bodies and have less discomfort if the excess tissue interferes with intercourse.
No. The procedure is not near the clitoris or the nerve that supplies sensation to the clitoris. The procedure is at the sides of the labia away from where sexual sensation is located.
Some patients have redundant skin around the clitoris called clitoral hooding. In these cases, Dr. Abtahi can perform an anterior extension and remove some of the excess tissue. The incision is hidden in the natural crease between the labia minor and majora and does not interfere with sensation to the clitoris.
Dr. Abtahi and his team will monitor your progression closely and inform you when you can resume exercise after your swelling improves and the incisions have healed. This process generally takes about 3 to 4 weeks, but you will have limitations on what type of exercise can be performed. At 6 weeks after surgery, you may resume all activities, including bike riding, horseback riding, and swimming.
